How to Get Involved
The strength of our Union depends as much on rank and file membership as it does on rank and file members taking on leadership positions and helping us build a leadership structure that upholds democratic member participation while developing our vision goals as workers at UMass.
In our last contract, we won paid release time (5 hours a week) for up to three postdocs. We currently have one postdoc on paid release time, and are entitled to two more. Paid release time would enable you to apply your existing skills and interests toward Union business as well as offer you time and space to develop new skills as a Union member (ie. attend trainings, etc.). If you are interested in taking one of these positions, please contact us at pro@umass.edu.
We have two “sister” Unions on campus that are also part of UAW 2322: GEO (Graduate Employee Organization) and RAPMU (Resident Assistants and Peer Mentors Union). Our sister Unions have established leadership structures, such as co-chairs, stewards, etc. If you are interested in becoming more involved and taking on a leadership position, please contact us at pro@umass.edu.
Every three years, we bargain our contract and need members to comprise our bargaining committee. If you are interested in volunteering to serve on the bargaining committee, in any capacity (perhaps occasional, perhaps as a note taker, perhaps as a number-cruncher, etc.), please contact us at pro@umass.edu.
The most important first step you can take towards getting more involved in your Union is to make sure you are a current dues paying member. Dues paying members signal to the University that the Union’s efforts at the bargaining table, or during grievance hearings, or even in informal workplace disputes and resolutions are efforts supported by virtue of a mandate of the members. Please sign up today so that we can continue to build a better contract with strong protections and awesome wages and benefits: https://prouaw2322.org/become-a-member-today/
